Royal de Luxe and La Machine are two french mechanical theater puppet troupes that work on a huge scale. They build huge puppet machines operated in large public spaces by many puppeteers (sometimes over 40+). Tractors, lifts, cranes are incorporated into the design of these huge puppets. These spectacles take an army of people to build and engineer. Planning takes what seems years.
They’ve also helped build a huge carousel theme park in Nantes - that from what I can tell - you can still visit. You ride around in spacey nautical creatures instead of the traditional carousel horse.
Royal de Luxe got a ton of attention in 2006 when the Little Girl Giant woke up at Horseguards Parade in London, took a shower from the time-traveling elephant and wandered off to play in the park. View the video here!
